For many years now, the Urban Affairs Association has supported initiatives aimed at the improvement of free speech, diversity, access to knowledge, social justice, and equality based on race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and ability. The Association is terribly saddened by the recent events in Charlottesville and stands firm in its determination to confront all forms of bigotry, in this case racism. In this capacity, the Urban Affairs Association condemns the use of violence and stands steadfast in its support of social, economic, and environmental justice. We reject white supremacy ideologies of hate that threaten to rupture our social fabric. We reaffirm our support for diversity in all its forms as an enriching legacy of our urban condition.
