The Urban Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is proud to be the institutional home of the Urban Affairs Association, whose offices are located just down the hall from my own.
A pillar of our program is community engagement. This summer, like several other cities around the country, Milwaukee was the scene of a police shooting that sparked community protests. Several nights of unrest resulted in the burning of neighborhood businesses and clashes between protestors and police.
On November 10 at 7:00 pm, the Urban Studies Program will host A Frank Conversation about Race in Milwaukee, a moderated discussion featuring several panelists selected to offer a range of viewpoints on this issue. Our intent is to bring university research and expertise together with community perspectives to further our understanding of how race matters in what is often characterized as America’s most segregated city.
The event will be filmed and uploaded to our website at https://uwm.edu/urban-studies/
