Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor – Real Estate Development
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the Department of Architecture at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in our Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED) program. While we expect to appoint at the rank of Assistant Professor, we will consider applicants and appointments at the level of Associate Professor or Professor. Qualified candidates should hold a terminal degree in a relevant field – including real estate development, urban planning, architecture, law, finance, and others – at the time of appointment. Although a doctoral degree and/or licensure is preferred, it is not required. Applicants should have a broad understanding of the industry and specialized knowledge in at least one relevant subfield, such as low-income housing, project finance, and others.
The duties of the selected candidate will involve a combination of teaching; research or scholarly productivity from external funding, possibly in connection with one of the six research centers in the school, facilitate research in collaboration with students and faculty, and disseminate research to professional audiences; service to the department, school, university, and community; and administrative responsibilities including advisement, student recruitment, and professional outreach to friends and benefactors.
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning offers five degree programs: B. A. in Environmental Design, an accredited Master of Urban Planning, Master of Science in Real Estate Development, Master of Science in Architecture (Historic Preservation), Ph.D. in Urban Planning, and two dual degree programs (with Architecture and Law). The MSRED program is in its sixth year with growing enrollment and excellent employment placement for graduates. UB has the only master’s-level real estate program in a state university in the U.S. northeast. This academic program builds on UB’s strong tradition of applied learning, with capstone and other project-based courses and provides a multi-disciplinary, practical, and focused education with courses in financial analysis and investment, construction management, market analysis, building technologies, structuring deals, cities and environment, and numerous electives.
The School of Architecture and Planning, with approximately 40 full-time faculty and 700 students, is home to the Department of Architecture and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, both offering accredited graduate programs. Located on the university’s historic South Campus, our 19th century academic building recently underwent a $30 million renovation.
