The Department of Urban & Regional Planning at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants to fill one Specialized Faculty position. This is a full-time, nine-month, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track, specialized faculty appointment at the rank of “clinical assistant professor”. This position is supported by one year of funding and may be renewable.

Responsibilities will include the following:

Teaching: undergraduate and graduate-level courses for the Department in economic development planning, public finance, and urban economics. All courses will be taught in person at the Urbana-Champaign campus. Courses to be taught may include:

  • Economic development introductions for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Economic development workshops for advanced undergraduate students
  • Public finance for urban planners
  • Fundamentals of urban theory, history, and sociology for undergraduates
  • Planning for climate change

Research, engagement, and service: Research, public engagement/professional development, and service to the Department and University as assigned by the Department.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • PhD in a field related to the course(s) to be taught, OR
  • Master’s degree in a field related to the course(s) to be taught, with at least five years of significant professional experience.
  • Availability for a full-time academic year appointment.
  • Evidence of teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of combined teaching and professional experience in a field relevant to the intended field of instruction.
