The Bartlett School of Planning at UCL is a research-led planning school at the forefront of tackling major urban priorities and challenges. As a truly interdisciplinary centre of excellence, it plays a leading role in shaping debates in the fields of urban planning and real estate, urban design, urban studies and geography. It also offers a range of innovative planning, real estate and built environment teaching programmes.

About the role

The School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Grade 8) in Real Estate and Planning. This new post is aimed at strengthening the School’s capacity in the field of real estate and planning with a view to actively engaging with existing and emerging priorities and challenges facing cities and the built environment in the UK and globally. We wish to expand our existing expertise in core real estate topics (investment, valuation, development) and extend it towards other priority areas such as the financialisation of housing and urban infrastructure, proptech, ESG investment, institutional investment/patient capital and new global economies. The appointee is expected to engage with this agenda while sustaining the vibrancy and innovative thinking that characterise the school. While actively contributing to shape key research debates, the appointee will also be involved in the delivery of our undergraduate and Masters programmes in the areas of real estate and planning. Requirements of the role: Awarded PhD in Real Estate, Planning or related discipline Research / Teaching specialism in real estate Publication in peer-reviewed journals (at a level commensurate with grade of appointment) – the post-holder must be returnable to REF irrespective of starting grade Experience in the leadership of taught modules A demonstrable independent research agenda – at a level judged to be commensurate with grade External research grants awarded – at a level judged to be commensurate with grade
