First meeting of Council of University Institutes for Urban Affairs (CUIUA).

  • Council of University Institutes for Urban Affairs (CUIUA) Board formed.
  • Articles of Incorporation filed in Washington, DC.

Tax exempt status granted as a 501©3 organization.

Secretariat established at University of Delaware.

Mary Helen Callahan becomes Executive Director.

Journal of Urban Affairs (JUA) Editorship moves to University of Louisville.

Council of University Institutes for Urban Affairs (CUIUA) changes its name to Urban Affairs Association (UAA).

Individual members gain voting rights in UAA elections.

UAA supports initial meetings that lead to start of the European Urban Research Association (EURA).

  • Leadership changes as two executive directors and a managing director enter and exit UAA roles.
  • Financial crisis emerges.

  • UAA gives initial support to launch intranet project: Cyberhood.
  • Mary Helen Callahan ends 25-year term as Executive Director.

Journal of Urban Affairs (JUA) ranks #1 out of 28 urban journals in international rankings.

  • Scott Cummings ends 17-year term as Journal of Urban Affairs (JUA) Editor
  • Victoria Basolo (UC Irvine) assumes JUA editorship
  • Margaret Wilder becomes Executive Director

Igor Vojnovic (Michigan State University) begins Journal of Urban Affairs (JUA) editorship.

  • Journal of Race, Ethnicity and the City (JRE) launched with editors, Yasminah Beebeejaun (University College London) and Ali Modarres (University of Washington Tacoma).
  • UAA 50th Anniversary Conference cancelled due to COVID pandemic.

Bernadette Hanlon (Ohio State University) becomes Journal of Urban Affairs (JUA) Editor.
