UAA COVID Safety Protocols and Conference Policy Update

UAA continues to monitor the pandemic and will adjust our conference plans based on known conditions. We are planning a fully in-person event. But, most importantly, we want an event that is as safe as possible.

Currently, the Mayor of Washington DC, Honorable Muriel Bowser, has established a set of policies that apply to the UAA conference space, as well as establishments throughout the city.

VaxDC Policy Statement

To help stop the spread of COVID-19, the District of Columbia (Washington) launched a city-wide vaccination entry requirement (VaxDC), which calls for establishments to verify that patrons are vaccinated against COVID-19. Patrons who have and show documentation of medical or religious exemptions from the COVID-19 vaccine must provide a negative PCR or antigen test within the last 24 hours prior to entry.

Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 is required in the following locations:

Indoor food and drink establishments, such as:
  • Restaurants
  • Nightclubs
  • Taverns
  • Coffee shops
  • Food halls
Indoor cultural and entertainment establishments, such as:
  • Concert, live entertainment and sporting venues
  • Movie theatres
  • Bowling alleys
Indoor exercise and recreational establishments, such as:
  • Gyms
  • Fitness studios
  • Any facilities used for group fitness classes
Indoor event and meeting establishments, such as:
  • Conferences

UAA Response

Given these local policies, ALL UAA CONFERENCE ATTENDEES are asked to prepare to meet the requirements of the VaxDC policies. The conference hotel (i.e., Renaissance Hotel) will verify vaccination OR negative test status upon check-in to your lodging. You will be issued a special wristband that verifies your clearance status. Attendees who are staying elsewhere will be required to verify COVID-19 vaccination or negative test status at the entrance to the meeting space.

In addition to the current vaccination or test rules, Washington has a mask mandate for indoor activities that has been extended until February 28.  Many local observers predict that this mandate will end by March 1. Washington’s vaccination/test policies may change before mid-April. So please check the UAA conference website for COVID policy updates.

Our goal is to have a safe conference that all can enjoy.  Please help us to achieve that goal!
