The Bartlett School of Planning at UCL is a research-led planning school at the forefront of tackling major urban priorities and challenges. As a truly interdisciplinary centre of excellence, it plays a leading role in shaping debates in the fields of urban planning, urban studies and geography, urban design, and real estate. It also offers a range of innovative planning and built environment teaching programmes.
About the role
The School is seeking to appoint two Lecturers (Grade 8) in Urban Planning/ Urban Studies to strengthen its capacity in engaging with existing and emerging priorities and challenges facing cities in the UK and globally. We would especially welcome applications in the fields of: regional / urban economic development, socio-economic inequalities, the financialisation of housing and infrastructure, adaptations to existing or new crises (climate emergency, pandemic) and the new forms of urbanism arising from it. While the School has a long tradition in shaping research debates nationally and internationally, it is also playing a key role in engaging with policy, professional practice, and local communities. The appointees are expected to engage with this legacy while collegially sustaining the vibrancy and innovative thinking that characterize the School. While actively contributing to shape key research debates, the appointees will also be involved in the delivery of our undergraduate and Masters programmes in the areas of planning and urban studies. About you
Awarded PhD in Urban Planning / Urban Studies or related discipline Research / Teaching specialism in urban planning, urban studies, urban geography Publication in peer-reviewed journals (at a level commensurate with grade of appointment) – the post-holder must be returnable to REF irrespective of starting grade Experience in the leadership of taught modules Demonstrable independent research agenda – at a level judged to be commensurate with grade External research grants awarded – at a level judged to be commensurate with grade
