The Department of Urban Planning and Public Policy in the School of Social Ecology seeks applications to fill a full-time academic specialist position focused on advancing modeling of public health impacts of drinking water failures. Disparities in drinking water quality pose a harm to public health. Little is known about the scope of waterborne disease in the U.S.
The focus of this research will be on the risks and disease burden of contaminated drinking water. The project brings together expertise in statistics, public health, and environmental economics through an interdisciplinary team at the University of California, Irvine.
Candidates should have strong computational skills, ideally with a focus on public health and/or water management. Experience with econometrics, uncertainty analysis, and statistical software (e.g., R or Stata) is desirable. Additionally, familiarity with spatial statistics is of interest but not required. Ideally, candidates would have a Master’s or Ph.D. in public health, environmental management, economics, urban planning, water resources engineering, geography, or a related field.
The successful candidate will be mentored by Dr. Maura Allaire and collaborate with faculty from UCI Program in Public Health.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and is benefits-eligible. The initial appointment will be for one year with a potential renewal for a second year. Anticipated start date is December 1, 2023 (or earlier or later, based on candidate’s availability). The position can be remote; work location must be in the United States. Applicants will need to submit a dossier including: (1) a curriculum vitae, (2) a cover letter, (3) sample publication, and (4) provide contact information for three references.
