Book announcement: Democracy as Creative Practice

Democracy as Creative Practice

Democracy as Creative PracticeTom Borrup and Andrew Zitcer are thrilled to announce a new edited volume Democracy as Creative Practice: Weaving a Culture of Civic Life.

In this time of democratic deficit, artists and culture bearers are showing us new ways of addressing gaps in dialogue across difference, voter mobilization, community development, racial reckoning, and more. The book proposes that a culture of democracy is an essential ingredient in moving forward collectively.

The book features contributions from 36 authors across 7 countries. The voices and experiences of artists, culture workers, and arts administrators are front and center, so the book is highly readable and action-oriented. There is also a focus on policy outcomes, as the work includes artist in residence in government, theater tools for local community development, healing after climate disaster and more.
