01 Conference Theme

Urban Innovations, Artificial Intelligence, and Sustainable Development

Over the past few decades, an increasing number of people have been living in cities. According to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, the global urban population is expected to increase by 2.2 billion from 2021 to 2050, with the urban population share rising from 56% in 2021 to 68% in 2050. Cities, as one of humanity’s greatest inventions, provide a better life for people but also face a series of pressing issues. Addressing these challenges requires extensive collaboration among governments, societies, businesses, and the public, as well as interdisciplinary and international participation from experts and scholars.

Following the inaugural Global (Chinese) Urban Governance and Policy Conference in July 2023, global cities are facing new opportunities and challenges. Post-pandemic economic innovation and the comprehensive impact of artificial intelligence on human society, especially in cities, are of particular concern. Therefore, we focus on the following topics:

· Best practices cases and comparatives of urban governance from a global perspective
·  Retrospect and prospect of urban governance and public policy theories globally
·  Innovation theories and practices of urban governance, enterprises, and social organizations under a global perspective
·  Urban policy agendas, implementation, and evaluation under a global perspective
·  Global comparative analysis of science, technology, and innovation policies
·  Policies and theories for urban “dual carbon” and sustainable development goals (SDG)
·  Opportunities, challenges, and governance of the new generation artificial intelligence technology
·  Artificial intelligence technology and future cities
·  Innovation in smart cities
·  Digital empowerment and high-quality development of urban governance
·  Challenges and responses to climate change, environmental pollution, and sudden public events
·  Urban resilience, security, and emergency management
