This annual award, initiated in 2023, gives recognition to an article published in the Journal of Race, Ethnicity and the City (during the previous year) that is considered particularly outstanding as a scholarly contribution to the field of urban affairs. The award is sponsored by Taylor and Francis, the official publisher of the Journal of Race, Ethnicity and the City (JRE).

Eligibility Requirements
  • Only articles accepted by JRE and published in the 2026 volume year are eligible for the 2026-2027 awards cycle.
  • If your article was published in JRE in 2026, you will automatically be nominated for this award. You do not need to do anything else.
Award Benefits

The recipient(s) of the award receives:

  • An international announcement of the award
  • A special award plaque
  • A complimentary conference registration waiver + 1 ticket for the Wednesday Night Opening Reception (valued at $600+ USD) for each author. The waiver must be used for the conference at which the award is received.

Selection Process

Each spring, the award is determined by a committee appointed by the Chair of the UAA Governing Board.
