The recipient(s) of the award receives:

  • A special award plaque
  • A complimentary conference registration waiver (including meal + reception tickets) for each author for the conference at which the award is received (valued at $500+ USD)
  • A conference fellowship of $1500 USD
    • Co-authors share the fellowship in an even division (e.g., two authors would each receive 50% of the fellowship) unless they decide on a different allocation
    • The fellowship may only be used toward conference-related costs (e.g., air ticket; train ticket; conference hotel room+taxes). To minimize the financial burden on recipients, UAA may apply the fellowship directly by purchasing travel tickets for authors and paying lodging bills up to the total fellowship amount; or, the recipient(s) can pay expenses upfront and seek reimbursement.

The plaque will be presented at the Annual Awards Program held during the spring conference. Following the conference, a press release will be prepared announcing the winner.

Award Selection Process

Each spring, the award is determined by a committee appointed by the Chair of the UAA Governing Board. All articles published in the most recent complete volume of the journal are automatically eligible for consideration. The committee chair reports the decision to the UAA Executive Director. The UAA Executive Office notifies the recipient.
