By choosing to stay at the conference hotel, you are doing much more than booking a convenient place to sleep. You are helping keep future conference registration fees as affordable as possible while strengthening UAA’s ability to invest in graduate students, early-career scholars, and professional development programs that benefit our entire community. Thank you for supporting UAA by staying at the conference hotel.

To accommodate more than 1000 researchers presenting over a 2.5-day conference, UAA requires 18+ concurrent meeting rooms. In most large urban centers with hundreds of hotels, only about 6–8 properties have that many meeting rooms. Renting this amount of meeting space outright would typically cost $50,000–$70,000 or more per day.

When UAA negotiates a hotel contract, we commit to filling a specified number of guest rooms each night and spending a minimum amount on food and beverage. In return, the hotel provides: 1) 18+ concurrent meeting rooms; 2) Ballroom space for meals and plenary events; 3) Registration space; 4) Board and committee meeting rooms; and  5) Additional support spaces. If UAA fails to meet its commitments, the hotel charges major penalty fees. To pay these fees, UAA must raise registration rates and member dues.
